Michigan Civil Rights Initiative

As the US Taxpayer's Candidate for US Senate from the State of Michigan I would like to go on record as strongly supporting the Michigan Civil Rights initiative that will be before Michigan voters this fall.

Clearly, a nation founded on the principles of one law and one standard for all men, allows, at its peril, the continuation of policies that create different standards of acceptance for different people depending upon their sex or race.

Laws that promote quotas and eventuate in discrimination against the most qualified in favor of those of the right hue or gender are both sexist and racist, even if inadvertently so, towards those very people groups that they are intended to aid.

When we as a people craft and continue to support legislation that creates preferential treatment set asides what we are communicating to the special interest groups who 'profit' from these preferential treatment set asides is our conviction that members of these special interest groups are incompetent to compete on a level playing field with the rest of the citizens of the State.

Such legislation and the attitude that supports it is condescending and insulting to those very people groups that it purports to help.

Further, keeping laws on the books that foster preferential treatment breeds' friction and ill will among the citizenry. Resentment inevitably arises when it is known that it is required by law that people of greater ability be passed over in order to get just the right mix.

Further, qualified working personal who are from the special interest groups seeking to be advantaged who really were the most qualified candidate for the position could be cavalierly dismissed as 'tokens' instead of being given the respect that they deserve.

In short, discrimination and quota programs throw sand in the gears of a well functioning social order. I challenge the Republican primary candidates for the US Senate and our current Michigan Senators to match my support for the Michigan Civil Rights initiative.
