Health Care

Action Item: Make health care private - Eliminate Corporate Health Care in Michigan

According to my "Business Environment" text book, "... the healthcare burden faced by corporate America is so substantial that it threatens not only the future prospects of individual businesses but also the long-term strength of the American economy and its international competitiveness."

In 2005, Michigan based, General Motors (GM), listed the costs of providing healthcare as one of the four top problems facing the company.

Corporate health care started off as a very well meaning gesture on behalf of the federal government, but like many things the government gets involved in that it shouldn't, it has turned into a very costly nightmare for corporations and individuals alike.

Between the government and insurance companies, the cost of medicine is no less than double what it should be and we have lost all personal privacy over our own medical matters.

The first step to correcting this problem, is to nulify the federal law allowing tax breaks that occur when companies buy their employee's health insurance. This means passing a law in Michigan that forbids corporations from buying/providing health care/insurance for employees and also makes it mandatory for insurance companies to sell health insurance only to individuals - not through groups.

Companies need to concentrate on their business not be distracted and ruined by health care. We need them profitable. We need their jobs.
