I have had patients who were required to go on the welfare-to-work program. They were very happy doing that even though it meant they had to work 20 hours/week to collect benefits. I was delightfully surprised at their attitude and happiness at being able to perform productive labor. It may well be that they’d enjoy gainful employment even more for longer periods of time each week with the resulting increased income.
