I address this letter to all voters in Taylor and Romulus, Michigan who are concerned about the way local, state and national governments have led us down the primrose path.
My name is Rick Butkowski. I have been a tax-paying resident of Taylor, Michigan for the past 27 years. And now I am running for the Michigan House of Representatives for the 22nd Michigan Congressional District in Taylor and Romulus. I am running on the U. S. Taxpayers Party ticket, the party that brought you the Headlee Amendment in 1978, that put limits on state and local government taxation. To date, according to the Mackinac Center, this amendment has been one of the most effective tax limitation measures in the United States. The U. S. Taxpayers Party of Michigan gave rise to today’s national Constitution Party.
Are you happy with the way things are going in this state and in this country? Do you feel freer than you did 2 years, 5 years or 10 years ago? Is your hard earned dollar going as far today as it has in the past, or has it lost “spending power”? Do you feel secure in your job or in your career? Have you been forced into an earlier retirement than you had planned all the time you were working? Why is Michigan in the number 50 slot for unemployment in the nation? Has Jennifer Granholm really done everything that she can to keep jobs in Michigan? For that matter has Dick DeVos? An honest person would likely answer in the negative in every category listed here. And there are many more.
If you are truly satisfied, then by all means vote for the incumbents. Or, vote for the Democrat and Republican candidates and you will certainly get more of the same. These two parties have had over 140 years to get things right, and they simply haven’t. Their candidates from the past have gotten us to where we are now. They are vested in the status quo, and they will likely continue to implement the same type of legislation and policies at the local, state and national levels of government because it has worked for them for that long - but not for the rest of us.
I’ve heard people exclaim that we can’t change things, that a vote for a third party would be a wasted vote. But that is just plain foolishness. We have a chance to change it all beginning this November 7, 2006. We won’t change anything by putting the candidates from the present two major parties back into office. But we can change things if we put candidates from the U. S. Taxpayers Party in Lansing and Washington, D.C. this fall.
I believe that our best hope is to return this state and country to the sovereign, constitutionally guaranteed republic it was intended to be. I will work to do that if elected. I will work to reduce taxes and bring back the jobs that the Republicans and Democrats have been exporting to Mexico, India and China for the past 20 years. I am retired and am ready to serve my state and country again.
