Do you think the Democrats and liberal Republicans didn't do the math or learn this hard, undeniable truth from their own researchers?
Or from the Wall Street Journal?
Is it possible that they're all ignorant?
Q: Or are they just a bunch of pandering liars, trying to cover up their own liability for the desperate plight of U.S. energy reserves?
A: They are just a bunch of pandering liars, trying to cover up their own liability for the desperate plight of U.S. energy reserves
Of course the answer is greater than that. Believe it or not, I agree with Al Gore on one point: we need to reduce our dependency on the internal combustion engine. We need to uncap all those wells we have in Michigan that have sat idle for the past two to three decades (since the inception of the EPA) when that act rendered the pumping of crude in Michigan economically infeasible.
Dear Ronald:
Don't let Teddy Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, and Chuck Schumer sell you a bill of goods.
The current high price of oil is not -- repeat, NOT -- the result of price gouging by oil companies.
Now I know what you're thinking... so before I go any further let's get a few things straight.
I know you're feeling frustration over the price of gasoline. This evening -- when I put gas in my car -- it cost me over 40 bucks and I know that it may cost more for you.
Tonight over dinner one of my nearest and dearest friends told me that he actually heard that young folks are actually selling their blood plasma to make the extra cash necessary to afford gasoline.
Things are bad all around!
And I also know that a lot of folks are downright angry over the fact that Exxon-Mobil posted a profit last quarter.
Our politicians know you're frustrated too. That's why Republicans started behaving like Democrats and floated a plan to give folks a 100 dollar give-away in this time of crisis.
You see, sometimes our political leaders think it's easier to pander to our fears and put the blame on others -- in this case, the big bad oil companies -- than to admit their own failures and offer REAL solutions.
And while pandering may be easy -- it's also highly insulting!
Let's face facts. The price of gasoline is high because our oil reserves are dangerously low and our dependence on Middle Eastern oil is dangerously high.
We're being jerked around by a bunch of third world potentates who hate our guts and would love to see us walking to work and freezing to death every winter.
And punishing the oil companies -- while it may give some a feeling of satisfaction -- will do very little to address our problem!
But you know who's really responsible for this mess? A coalition of Greenies, liberals, and Democratic demagogues.
In the last group you can put Teddy, Hillary, Chuck, and all the other liberals in Congress who, for the past two decades, have voted against increasing production of domestic oil.
It's time to DEMAND that Congress get out of the oil business!

Tell them that unless they take action immediately, American voters will hold them responsible for this avoidable crisis.

We Need Real Solutions
What's the real problem?
Liberals are the problem.
On Wednesday, the House passed a bill making it a criminal offense to price gouge, but -- at the same time -- voted down a bill designed to make it easier for oil companies to build refineries!
Do you really believe that passing this bill is going to drive the price of gasoline down? Do you really believe that anyone is actually going to do any jail time because Congress passed this meaningless law?
Of course not... it's a panacea!
But other than the fact that we haven't built an oil refinery in this country in over 30 years, liberals have continually blocked drilling on a tiny parcel of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) because it might offend the delicate sensibilities of polar bears and walruses.
The U.S. Geological Survey estimates that tapping ANWR would increase America's domestic oil reserves by about 50 percent -- enough to drive the price of oil way, way down.
Experts agree that this could be done without the slightest damage to even the most paranoid polar bear and neurotic walrus.
Now -- when Americans can feel the disastrous consequences of leftist obstructionism every time they pump gas -- we can (must) pass legislation to open up ANWR to U.S. companies so they can harvest this rich reserve and cut the price of gasoline in half.
But, ANWR isn't the only oil reserve Teddy, Hillary, Chuck and the rest of the mouth-frothing Greenies have declared off-limits to exploration by American companies.
The federal government has jurisdiction over the Outer Continental Shelf -- some 190-200 nautical miles of gulf and ocean floor beyond where state jurisdiction ends.
Experts estimate that more oil lies under our Outer Continental Shelf than in all of Saudi Arabia.
Environmentalists have wrung their hands and shrieked at the very idea -- claiming high winds and rough waters would tear the off-shore rigs apart and kill every creepy-crawly in the ocean.
But that didn't happen when Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf-based rigs, did it?
Congress needs to get serious about this problem, but if the panaceas are to stop, we have to get serious and hold their feet to the fire.

Liberals Are Weeping Crocodile Tears
Current gasoline prices are the direct result of oil shortages caused by Democrats and Left-wing Republicans.
When Democrats and other assorted liberals weep buckets of tears over the high price of gasoline, don't be conned into believing they really feel your pain.
They are insanely, passionately in love with high gasoline prices. Greenie websites feature articles with titles like: "More Taxes Please: Why the Price of Gas Is Too Low."
As columnist Ann Coulter put it: "For decades Democrats have been trying to raise the price of gasoline so that the working class will stop their infernal car driving and start riding on buses where they belong..."
The Wall Street Journal made the same point: "High [gas] prices have been the prod that the left has favored to persuade Americans to abandon their SUVs and minivans, use mass transit, turn the thermostat down, produce less consumer goods and services, and stop emitting those satanic greenhouse gases."
Sam Kazman -- an expert on gasoline pricing at the Competitive Enterprise Institute -- said: "Why isn't the left dancing in the streets over $3 a gallon gas?"
Actually they're dancing behind closed doors with the shades drawn, because they don't want you and the rest of the American people to know how absolutely ecstatic they are. Their ship has come in. Gas-guzzling Americans are suffering. Hooray!
For years they've been trying to drive up the price of gas by increasing taxes at the pump:
In 1993 -- when the Democrats controlled the House, Senate, and White House -- "Billary" Clinton proposed a 26-cent tax on gas.
When Republicans demanded that the tax be dropped, Big Bad Wolf Al Gore huffed and puffed and said the gas tax was "absolutely not coming out" of the energy bill.
Then-Speaker of the House Tom Foley said: "I'd have a five-cent increase every year for five years."
Not to be outdone, John Kerry (You remember him!) called for a 50-cent gas tax.
The Republicans fought so hard to keep gasoline prices down that the Dems were only able to sneak through a 4.3 percent federal tax.
Now Schumer is prancing around in mock pain like he just stubbed his toe:
"If $75 a barrel and a $3 average for a gallon of gas isn't a wake-up call," he said, "then what is?"
He's right! It IS a wake-up call -- for conservative Americans -- for you and me -- to speak with one voice to Congress, to tell them, "You've gotten us into this mess. Now get us out -- or else!"

Didn't ANWR Pass?
But wait a minute!
Didn't the Republicans pass a bill a while back that would have opened up oil production in ANWR?
They sure did -- in 1995. And Bill Clinton -- with Hillary as his co-president -- vetoed it.
You know the reason he gave?
He said -- if you have high blood pressure skip this sentence -- it would take 5-10 years to produce the oil.
Let's see. That means oil would have been pouring out of wells by last year at the latest. And we wouldn't be paying $3 a gallon for gasoline.
Are we going to postpone the tapping of these oil-rich reserves in ANWR and the Outer Continental Shelf just to appease the Chicken Little Lobby on Capitol Hill?
The Republicans have the power to say "No!" But you and I will have to hold their feet to the fire.

Fairy Tales And Other Lies
By the way, if you're still inclined to believe the price-gouging fairy tale trumpeted by Teddy and Hillary and Chuck, consider this fact:
The price of the crude oil from which gasoline is refined has risen 25 percent MORE than the price of gasoline at the pump over the past 3 years.
Or look at it this way...
If Exxon-Mobile was to offer an 8 percent rebate on gasoline at the pump -- to match their profits -- gasoline at my local station would only fall 26 cents, from $3.30 per gallon to $3.04 per gallon -- that's hardly a bump!
Come' on... the government takes 50 - 60 cents per gallon in taxes in some localities!
Do you think the Democrats and liberal Republicans didn't do the math or learn this hard, undeniable truth from their own researchers?
Or from the Wall Street Journal?
Is it possible that they're all ignorant?
Or are they just a bunch of pandering liars, trying to cover up their own liability for the desperate plight of U.S. energy reserves.
In his crazy-eyed book, Earth in the Balance -- written under the influence of a full moon -- Al Gore called for "eliminating the internal combustion engine over, say, a twenty-five year period."
In case you didn't know, that's the engine under the hood of your car.
The book was written in 1992. If we continue to allow far-left Democrats to control our energy policy, in 10 years Gore may just get his wish.
